Eleven people were hanging from a rope beneath a rescue helicopter: ten men and one woman.

The helicopter was struggling to stay steady, and the rope was clearly not strong enough to hold everyone for much longer. It stretched, twisted, and creaked in the wind as the people clung to it for dear life.

Someone finally shouted over the noise, “This rope won’t hold all of us! One person has to let go, or we’re all going to fall!”

A terrible silence followed.

Nobody wanted to be the one to sacrifice themselves. The men looked at each other nervously, each hoping someone else would volunteer. The helicopter continued to sway, and the rope strained even more.

After a few tense moments, the woman took a deep breath and spoke.

She said she would voluntarily let go of the rope. She explained that, as a woman, she was used to giving up things for others. She had spent her life making sacrifices for her husband, her children, and for men in general. She said women were often expected to give everything, ask for little in return, and still remain strong.

Her words were so emotional and powerful that everyone became silent. Even with the helicopter blades roaring above them, her speech seemed to touch every single man on that rope.

She finished by saying she was ready to make one final sacrifice so the others could live.

For a moment, nobody moved.

Then, as soon as she finished her speech, all the men started clapping…
