A blonde was out for her usual afternoon walk with her two dogs.
They were an odd-looking pair.
One was tall, elegant and walked proudly beside her as though he owned the entire neighborhood.
The other was much shorter, slightly rounder and seemed far more interested in sniffing every tree, mailbox and suspicious-looking leaf along the sidewalk.
A man walking in the opposite direction noticed them and smiled.
“Oh my, you have such beautiful dogs.. what are their names?”
The blonde stopped proudly and pointed to the taller dog.
“Well, the taller one is Timex and the shorter one is Rolex.”
The man raised an eyebrow.
He looked at Timex.
Then at Rolex.
Then back at the blonde.
“Huh.. that’s interesting.. why did you name them such names?”
The blonde immediately sighed.
Apparently, this was not the first time somebody had asked.
She folded her arms and shook her head with the exhausted expression of someone who could not understand why the rest of the world found something so obvious so confusing.
Meanwhile, Timex sat patiently beside her.
Rolex was busy trying to investigate a discarded sandwich wrapper.
The man waited politely, expecting some sentimental story.
Maybe the dogs had been gifts.
Maybe the names had belonged to relatives.
Maybe there was some clever family tradition behind it.
The blonde looked at him as though he had just asked why people wore shoes on their feet.
“Everyone keeps asking me the same thing…
duhh, what else can you name your watch dogs??”
