One afternoon, Joe was sitting at his desk, quietly enjoying a cup of coffee, when one of his co-workers approached him with a worried expression.
“Joe, buddy… I hate to be the one to tell you this, but there’s something you really need to know.”
Joe looked up from his paperwork.
“What is it? You look like you’ve seen a ghost!”
His co-worker hesitated, then lowered his voice.
“Well, I’ve heard that your wife has been cheating on you.”
Joe nearly spilled his coffee.
“WHAT?! My wife?! Are you serious?!”
“I’m afraid so,” his colleague replied. “And that’s not even the worst part.”
Joe stared at him in horror.
“There’s MORE?!”
His co-worker nodded solemnly.
“Apparently, she’s been meeting your best friend at your house every single afternoon. Always at exactly 1:30!”
Joe went pale.
“My BEST FRIEND?! In MY HOUSE?! Every afternoon?!”
He jumped out of his chair so quickly that it nearly tipped over.
Without another word, he grabbed his car keys, rushed out of the office, and drove home as fast as he could.
His co-worker watched him leave, shaking his head.
“Well,” he muttered, “this isn’t going to end well.”
About an hour later, Joe returned to the office.
But something was strange.
Instead of looking furious, heartbroken, or devastated, he was smiling.
He calmly hung up his coat, sat down at his desk, and went right back to work as though nothing had happened.
His co-worker couldn’t believe his eyes.
“Joe! You’re back! What happened? Did you catch them?”
Joe nodded.
“Yep. Sure did.”
The co-worker leaned forward, completely confused.
“And?! Aren’t you upset? What did you do?”
Joe waved his hand dismissively.
“Look,” said Joe. “Don’t start such terrible rumors! That guy isn’t my best friend… I don’t even know him.”
