One peaceful morning at the convent, Sister Teresa woke up in a wonderful mood and headed downstairs for breakfast.
On her way, she met Sister Assumpta.
“Good morning, Sister Assumpta!” she said cheerfully.
“Good morning, Sister Teresa!” came the reply. “Did you get out of bed the wrong side this morning?”
Sister Teresa looked puzzled but decided to ignore the strange question.
A few minutes later, she reached the dining hall.
“Good morning, Sister Pieta!” she said to the nun serving porridge.
“Good morning, Sister Teresa! Did you get out of bed the wrong side this morning?”
Sister Teresa frowned.
“Why does everyone keep asking me that?” she wondered.
She quietly ate her breakfast, growing more irritated by the minute.
As she was returning her bowl, she spotted the Mother Superior.
“Good morning, Reverend Mother!” she said politely.
The Mother Superior smiled.
“Good morning, Sister Teresa! Did you get out of bed the wrong side this morning?”
That was the last straw!
Sister Teresa nearly burst into tears.
“Reverend Mother, please! Why does everyone keep asking me that? Have I been rude? Do I look angry? What’s wrong with me?”
The Mother Superior looked at her kindly, trying not to smile.
“Oh no, dear!” says the Mother Superior. “It’s just that you’ve got the Bishop’s slippers on.”
