A restaurant in New Orleans had a rather unusual sign outside:
“ORDER ANYTHING YOU WANT! IF WE CAN’T SERVE IT, WE’LL GIVE YOU $5,000!”
One afternoon, a man spotted the sign and grinned.
“Five thousand dollars? This should be easy!”
He walked inside, sat down, and waited for the waiter.
“Good afternoon, sir! What would you like to order?”
The man smiled mischievously.
“I’d like an elephant’s ear and a muffin, please.”
“Certainly, sir. Just a moment!”
The waiter disappeared into the kitchen.
A few minutes later, he returned.
“Excuse me, sir. Would you prefer an African elephant’s ear or an Indian elephant’s ear?”
The man blinked in disbelief.
“Uh… Indian, I guess.”
“Excellent, sir!”
The waiter hurried away, only to return a minute later.
“And would you prefer the left ear or the right ear?”
Now the man was getting nervous.
“Uhhh… the left ear, please.”
“Splendid!”
The waiter disappeared again.
The man began sweating, wondering whether he’d made a terrible mistake.
Five minutes later, the waiter returned carrying a large platter and an envelope containing $5,000.
The man stared in amazement as the waiter politely announced,
“Here is your order sir. We do apologize, but we are out of muffins for today.”
