An old Berliner is taking a winter holiday in the Bavarian Alps and decides to try ice fishing on a frozen lake.

He knew fishing well – he’d done it all his life. But drilling a hole in a frozen lake was new to him.

So he sits down with his equipment at the ice hole and waits.

After an hour he still hadn’t caught a single fish.

Then a little boy comes along, drills a second hole very close by and also starts fishing.

Less than five minutes later, the boy pulls out a huge trout.

The old man is still thinking to himself:

“Well, I was lucky.”

But five minutes later, the boy pulls out another fish. Then another. And another.

Finally, the old man could no longer stand it and asked:

“Tell me, kid… I’ve been sitting here for over an hour and haven’t caught anything – and you’re pulling out one fish after another! How do you do that?”

The boy answers with his mouth full:

“Mmmf mmmf keep the worms warm!”

“What?”

“Mmmf mmmf keep the worms warm!”

“I don’t understand a word! Can you speak more clearly?”

Then the boy spits something into his hand and says:

“You have to keep the worms warm!”
