A woman bought herself a beautiful pet parrot, imagining cheerful conversations, funny little phrases, and perhaps a friendly “Good morning” every day.
Unfortunately, the parrot had other ideas.
From the moment it arrived, it insulted her constantly.
It criticized her cooking.
It mocked her clothes.
It even seemed to have developed several creative new insults specifically for mornings.
The woman tried everything.
She spoke gently to it.
She covered its cage.
She rewarded good behavior.
Nothing worked.
Then Christmas approached.
Her entire family was coming for dinner, and she became terrified that the parrot would insult Grandma, offend Uncle Bob, or say something that would make Christmas memorable for all the wrong reasons.
Finally, Christmas Day arrived.
The relatives came in.
The turkey went into the oven.
Everyone gathered around the table.
And strangely, the parrot didn’t say a single word.
Not one insult.
Not even a sarcastic whistle.
The woman couldn’t believe her luck.
Dinner went perfectly.
After everyone had eaten and the family began leaving, the parrot finally spoke.
“Please forgive my behavior from before. I was entirely out of line.”
The woman stared at it in amazement.
“Wow,” she said, delighted by the sudden transformation.
The parrot lowered its voice politely.
“If I may ask,” said the Parrot, “what on Earth did that turkey say to you?”
