An 82-year-old woman went to her doctor’s office for a routine examination.
She checked in, filled out the usual paperwork, and was eventually shown into an examination room.
Everything seemed perfectly normal.
A few minutes later, however, the peaceful waiting room was suddenly interrupted by a loud screech.
Then came another.
A moment later, the examination-room door flew open and the elderly woman came rushing out as fast as her legs could carry her.
She looked absolutely terrified.
A nurse hurried after her.
“Mrs. Smith! Mrs. Smith, please calm down!”
It took several minutes, a glass of water, and a lot of reassurance before the woman could explain what had happened.
The nurse listened.
Her expression changed from concern to disbelief.
Then from disbelief to fury.
She marched straight into the doctor’s office.
“Doctor, how could you?”
The doctor continued writing in the patient’s chart.
The nurse slapped her hand on the desk.
“Mrs. Smith is 82 years old, and you told her she’s pregnant!”
The doctor still didn’t look particularly concerned.
The nurse stared at him, waiting for some kind of explanation.
Finally, without even looking up from his notes, the doctor replied calmly,
“Does she still have the hiccups?”
