One day, a priest walked into a small barbershop for a haircut.
When the barber finished, the priest reached for his wallet, but the barber stopped him.
“No, Father,” he said. “I can’t take your money. You do God’s work.”
The priest thanked him warmly and left.
The next morning, when the barber arrived at his shop, he found a dozen Bibles waiting at the door.
A few days later, a police officer came in for a haircut.
When it was time to pay, the barber shook his head again.
“No charge,” he said. “You protect the public. It’s the least I can do.”
The officer thanked him and left.
The next morning, the barber found a dozen doughnuts outside his shop door.
Later that week, a lawyer came in for a haircut.
After the barber finished, the lawyer took out his wallet, but once again the barber refused payment.
“No, sir,” he said. “You serve the justice system. This one is on me.”
The lawyer smiled, thanked him, and walked out.
The next morning, the barber came to open his shop…
And found a dozen lawyers waiting outside for a free haircut.
