An old man walked into a fancy jewelry store one afternoon with a young blonde lady on his arm.
The clerk noticed them immediately. The age difference was hard to miss, and in his mind, he was already convinced the old man was being taken advantage of.
The young woman smiled brightly, leaned over the glass counter, and said, “Show me an expensive ring.”
The clerk hesitated and looked at the old man. The old man simply nodded.
So the clerk pulled out a beautiful diamond ring and said, “This one is $50,000 dollars.”
The blonde tried it on, turned her hand from side to side, and said, “It’s nice, but I want something nicer.”
Again, the clerk glanced at the old man. Again, the old man gave a calm little nod.
The clerk carefully opened the premium display case and brought out a stunning ring that sparkled under the showroom lights.
“This is one of our finest rings,” he said. “It costs over $300,000.”
The young woman gasped. “I love it. I’ll take it!”
Without hesitation, the old man took out his checkbook and wrote a check for the full amount.
The clerk accepted it politely but said, “Due to the dollar value, it will take three days for the check to clear. Please come back Monday morning to pick up the ring.”
On Monday morning, the old man returned to the store by himself.
The clerk looked uncomfortable and said, “Sir, unfortunately the check did not go through due to insufficient funds.”
The man says “oh I know it was never gonna clear. I just wanted to come in and tell you about my weekend!”
