Paddy had decided it was finally time to sell his old car.
The thing had been with him for years.
It rattled when it started, squeaked when it stopped, and made a strange noise every time he turned left.
Still, Paddy was convinced someone would pay good money for it.
He mentioned the sale to his mate over a pint.
His mate asked, “How many miles has it done?”
Paddy told him.
His mate nearly choked on his drink.
“No one’s going to pay decent money with that mileage!”
Paddy looked disappointed.
Then his mate leaned closer and gave him some questionable advice.
“Just wind the mileage back a bit. Make it look like it hasn’t been driven halfway around the world.”
Paddy thought this was brilliant.
A few days passed.
When his mate saw him again, he immediately asked how the car sale had gone.
“Did winding the mileage back help?”
Paddy smiled proudly.
He explained that he had spent ages carefully winding the numbers back.
Further and further.
He kept going until the odometer looked much more respectable.
His mate grinned.
“So, did you get a good price for it?”
Paddy shook his head.
“I didn’t sell it.”
His mate looked confused.
“Why not?”
Paddy said when he finished winding it back it only had 7000 on the clock so he decided to keep it!
