Paddy and Murphy were working on a building site one morning, and neither of them was particularly enthusiastic about finishing the day.
It was hot, noisy, and the foreman had already found three extra jobs for them before lunch.
Paddy suddenly leaned toward Murphy.
“I’m gonna have the day off.
I’m gonna pretend I’m mad!”
Murphy looked at him suspiciously.
Before he could ask what Paddy had in mind, Paddy climbed up into the rafters.
A few seconds later, he was hanging upside down high above the floor.
Then he started shouting,
“I’M A LIGHT BULB! I’M A LIGHT BULB!”
Murphy stood below staring in amazement.
Several workers stopped what they were doing.
The foreman looked up, rubbed his forehead, and shouted,
“Paddy, what the hell are you doing?”
“I’M A LIGHT BULB!”
The foreman had seen enough.
“Paddy you’re mad, go home”.
Paddy immediately climbed down, grabbed his coat, and walked off the site looking extremely pleased with himself.
Murphy watched him disappear through the gate.
Then he calmly put down his tools and started packing his kit as well.
The foreman noticed.
“Where the hell are you going?” asks the Foreman.
Murphy looked up at the empty rafters and replied,
“I can’t work in the friggin’ dark!”
