A man went to visit his 90-year-old grandfather, who lived alone in a quiet, remote area far from town.
After spending the night there, he woke up to the smell of breakfast. His grandfather had made eggs and bacon and placed a plate in front of him.
As the man started eating, he noticed a strange film on the plate. He frowned and asked, “Grandpa, are these plates clean?”
His grandfather looked at him and said, “Those plates are as clean as cold water can get them. Now go on and eat your breakfast.”
The man didn’t want to be rude, so he continued eating.
Later that day, his grandfather made hamburgers for lunch. Once again, the man noticed small specks around the edge of the plate and what looked like dried egg yolk from breakfast.
He tried to ignore it, but finally asked, “Grandpa, are you sure these plates are clean?”
Without even looking up from his food, the old man said, “I already told you, those dishes are as clean as cold water can get them. Don’t ask me again.”
The man decided not to say another word.
That evening, he planned to drive into a nearby town for dinner. As he headed toward the door, his grandfather’s dog suddenly stepped in front of him, growling and refusing to let him pass.
The man called out, “Grandpa, your dog won’t let me leave!”
Without taking his eyes off the football game on TV, his grandfather shouted:
“Cold Water, go lay down!”
