Late one night, Little Johnny was walking past a large office building when he noticed a sign beside the entrance.
It read:
Press bell for night watchman.
Johnny stopped and stared at it for a moment.
Being curious, he reached out and pressed the bell.
At first, nothing happened.
Then, after several minutes, he heard heavy footsteps echoing from somewhere inside the building.
The night watchman slowly made his way down the stairs, clearly annoyed at being disturbed.
First, he unlocked one gate.
Then he unlocked another.
After that, he turned off the alarm system, pushed through the security door, and finally came out through the revolving entrance.
He was an old man in a uniform, and he looked very irritated.
Standing in front of Little Johnny, he frowned and growled, “Well? What do you want?”
Johnny looked up at him innocently and said:
“I just wanted to know why you can’t ring it for yourself…?”
