A man and his wife were driving along the highway when flashing police lights appeared behind them.
The man pulled over, and a patrol officer walked up to the driver’s window.
“Sir,” the officer said, “I’m going to issue you two tickets. One for speeding and another for not wearing your seat belt.”
The driver immediately protested.
“That’s not true! I was wearing my seat belt. I only unfastened it when you walked up to the car.”
The officer looked unconvinced.
He turned toward the man’s wife and asked:
“Ma’am, you were sitting right beside him. He wasn’t wearing his seat belt, was he?”
The woman glanced at her husband, then looked back at the officer.
“Well, officer,” she replied calmly, “I learned a long time ago not to argue with my husband when he’s drunk.”
