A police officer had found what he believed was the perfect spot to catch speeding drivers.
It was on a busy stretch of highway, right near a bend in the road. From there, he could hide his patrol car completely out of sight while his radar watched every vehicle coming through.
He had used the same location many times before with great success, especially during holiday weekends.
So, one Labor Day weekend, he decided to set up there again.
The officer parked his car, turned on the radar, and waited.
Half an hour passed.
Then another half hour.
To his surprise, not a single car was speeding.
In fact, almost every driver passed by at exactly the speed limit. Some passengers even smiled and waved as they went past.
The officer couldn’t understand it. His hiding place was excellent. No one should have been able to see him from the road.
After a while, he became suspicious.
He got out of his patrol car and walked up the highway to investigate.
About a hundred yards before his hiding place, he found the reason.
A ten-year-old boy was standing by the road holding a huge hand-painted sign that said:
RADAR TRAP AHEAD
The officer stared at him in disbelief.
Then he walked farther down the road, past his hidden patrol car.
About a hundred yards beyond the radar trap, he found another boy standing beside the highway.
This one had a sign that read:
TIPS
And at his feet was a bucket full of change.
