Before leaving for war, Paddy decided to make sure his wife would remain faithful while he was away.
He fitted her with a chastity belt, carefully locked it, and handed the only key to his best friend, Fergus.
“If I don’t return within four years,” Paddy told him solemnly, “you may unlock it and enjoy!”
Fergus nodded seriously and promised to keep the key safe.
Paddy said goodbye to his wife, climbed onto his horse, and began his long journey toward the battlefield.
About half an hour later, while riding along the road, he noticed a large cloud of dust forming behind him.
Someone was approaching at full speed.
Paddy stopped his horse and turned around.
To his surprise, it was Fergus, racing desperately after him and waving his arms.
When Fergus finally reached him, he was completely out of breath.
Paddy looked worried and asked:
“Fergus, what’s wrong?”
Struggling to catch his breath, Fergus held up the key and shouted:
“It’s the wrong key!!”
