An old Italian man goes to church for confession. He starts:
“Father, forgive me, for I have sinned.
During the war, I hid a young Jewish girl in my cellar.”
The priest says:
“That was a wonderful thing you did and needs no forgiveness.”
The old man continues:
“But Father… I made her pay me 20 lire every week.”
The priest replies:
“Well, that wasn’t very charitable, but you did save her life, and you were taking a great risk yourself. I’m sure God will forgive you.”
“Thank you, Father,” says the old man, relieved.
Then, just before leaving, he turns around and asks:
“Father… do you think I should tell her the war is over?” 😂
